I am On a Holiday
This past week I have had the previlege to be a hostess to a very special house guest. Robyn Bennett and I served together in the Philippines over 20 years ago. She came all the way from New Zealand, just to see little ol' me!!!! During the next six day,we did alot of eating, shopping and site seeing. So make yourself comfy and enjoy the tour:
We begin our holiday by going to Wal-Mart--she loves that place. We bought some cute little gifts for some of her friends. Since we were right there, and we planned it--we saw the movie "The Time Travelers Wife". A very good chick flick. We spent the rest of the day just touring around Gilbert. Of course one place that I had to take her was to In and Out. She really enjoyed their double-double and fries. That was on Wednesday.
Thursday, we went to the Mesa, AZ temple. After that, we headed back home, changed our clothes and went to cooking class at Shar's, where we meet my mom and her friends and learned a few mexican receipes that you can do in the pressure cooker. Yummy food. That took care of our lunch. From there, we went marketing. That night, we attended my wards' book club in which I proceeded to introduce her to everybody--who in turned, kept asking her questions just so that they can hear her talk (New Zealant accent, you know). We had a very fun evening with all the sisters.
Friday, we ventured out to South Mountain. It was a lovely drive. We had a beautiful view of the "Valley of the Sun". Next stop was the Chandler Mall---boy, did we get our excercise there!!! Lots of shopping and snacking we did. I taught her never buy anything that was not more that 50% off. Let's just say that she is a very quick learner. From there, we did more marketing in preparation for our Filipino feast!! Melchor was sweet enough to cook some pancit and lupia of which we also had some tropical fruit and sticky rice---soooooooo masarup!!!!! The highlight of the night of course, was the presence of Elder Craig Taylor. He just happens to live in Gilbert also, and was able to come to dinner. We all pigged out and spent the night reminesing about our mission days. Memories!!!!
Saturday, we headed out early once again, this time to Schepfs' Farm where we had a delicious breakfast and a lovely train ride around the farm. Next stop, the Olive Mill. Robyn did not like olives or any of the fantastic flavors of the olive oils, but she did love the Parmagranite Balsamic Vinegar--which she did purchase--just hope that it does not break between here and NZ!!!! Saturday night was the General Womens' Relief Society Broadcast. We had a nice meal of different types of foods from many countries. We enjoyed the broadcast immensley. Again we went to Sams' Club for food shopping for Sunday, came home and watched the movie "Forever Strong". It was a great movie.
Sunday was church. Melchor enjoye introducing her in sunday school class as his long lost twin sister separated at birth---brother!!!!!! We had a great dinner at my parents house. We watched the Cardinals get creamed by the colts and played triominoes and scottish bridge--both of which she liked playing.
Today I had to take her to the airport. Next stop on her holiday is SLC to visit friends and to attend general conference. It was fun to have her here. It was well worth the week of not getting my usual nap time in.
